Visiting fellowships:

1995- 1997  Royal Society Postdoctoral Fellow at Department of Chemistry, Queen Mary, University of London. Topic: Investigation and characterisation of soil organic matter by solid and liquid state NMR spectroscopy.

Research Interests:

The use of solution and solid state NMR spectroscopy to study structure and stereochemistry of synthetic and natural organic compounds (carbohydrates, lipids, antibiotics, nucleotides, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids etc.) in combination with other spectral, theoretical and chemical methods.

Current research topics include:
  • Structural analysis of fatty acids and glycerolipids by NMR spectroscopy: fatty acid composition and their positional distribution in the triacylglycerol molecule, oxidation stability of edible oils and fats, detection and identification of the oxidation products.
  • Application of NMR spectroscopy for structural and stereochemical studies of synthetic and natural biologically active compounds.
  • The use of NMR spectroscopy to study colloidal and water soluble temperature-responsive polymer systems, which have potential use as drug carriers. Study of possible mechanisms of drug immobilization in the polymer matrix.
  • Study of the tautomeric equilibrium in derivatives of cyclic diketones with potential UV-protecting activity by NMR and theoretical methods.
  • The use of NMR to study structure of linear and branched fluorescent polymers for application in optoelectronics.
