| Objective of the Summer school |
|
The
objective of the Summer school within the Center
for Applied Spectroscopy is to give advanced students in
chemistry practical instructions to conduct environmental analysis
according to the current state of art. We will focus on one specific group
of chemicals - the hydrocarbons - which are known to be a wide spread
contamination in soil and water due to industrial activities or unintended
spill. The oil refinery in Novi Sad was damaged heavily during the NATO
attacks in 1999 and as a result large quantities of petroleum, petroleum
derivatives and various burning products were released into the
environment. Within the course sampling, in situ measurements and the
analytical determination of hydrocarbons and PAH’s will be made in
cooperation with the Refinery and the Faculty of Technology of the
University of Novi Sad. During the workshop students will get a training
in sample preparation, sample clean up, quantification procedures and
method evaluation. In addition, lectures will be given to cover some of
the most important theoretical
aspects.
